TODAY THE WORDS ARE PLAYING JEOPARDY

TODAY THE WORDS are PLAYING JEOPARDY. Maybe, because we have a new puppy; maybe because I am a little sleep deprived; or maybe it is because this is the subject that was presented this morning, I am writing about the television show, Jeopardy. The show was originally created in the 1960s by Merv Griffin, a famed television host, musician, and actor. Irritated by the impossibility of trying to create a quiz show because of scandals that had taken place involving that genre, Griffin was inspired by a suggestion from his wife Julann to create a show wherein contestants were presented with clues in the form of answers, and had to phrase their responses in the form of a question. One of the cutest statements my Mother made to me was when I asked her to watch Jeopardy with me on one of my overnight visits with her and when I happened to answer a few questions right; she said, “Baby, you should be on that show.” Oh the love of a Mother is so precious and unconditional. I didn’t reply; I just smiled. I still watch Jeopardy and Greg walks in at certain times to answer the history questions and I have actually learned a lot from watching. Watching Jeopardy is not the true focus of this blog message. Even contestants who apparently have prepared and been prepped by their families, friends, and a lot of self study and they simply miss questions which brings me to the deeper thought…..Life can be a game of jeopardy and even though we feel we have prepared thoroughly and we feel confident we can handle a lot of categories to give the correct answers to the questions in life and then comes the jeopardy question and we are not sure of the answer. The music starts playing in our head, stress starts causing perspiration, and our hearts pound. We can sometimes feel defeated if we don’t know all of the answers to all of the questions. What we can remember is that we are not expected to know all of the answers in life. If a contestant on a show, prepped to the ninth degree misses questions, we need to lighten up, research the answers, be upfront with others we do not know the answer, and trust in others who might know the answers and ask them to help us. Jeopardy, only has one winner for each show; life offers many winners and gives the losers another shot at victory. God tells us it is not expected for us to understand all and the old song comes to mind, “We will understand it better by and by!
