TODAY THE WORD IS SPOOKED?
TODAY THE WORD is SPOOKED? When we were children, I am sure that most of us got spooked or scared out of our wits by some undetermined noise or by someone who wanted to see if they could scare us to scream level. I know I did as I had two brothers who loved to jump out from behind a door. We had uncles who babysat for us when we were small who told us scary stories and hid under sheets, acting like ghosts so my experience in “being spooked” is broad. I could feel the hairs on my neck stand up several times. We also went to the movies and would watch the “horror” movies and hide our eyes, scream out at certain points, and vow never to go see another one. Then, we would go see another one. As we grew older and had times we were alone, there was sometimes silence and then the “uh oh” noise and the imagination went wild wondering what it could be. “Monsters” came out of closets, “ghosts” were haunting our house, and the “boogie man” was coming to get us. We would literally feel true fear stemming from imagination as those things were explained by simplicity of nature of the wind, loose shutters, tree limbs hitting the house, etc. Sometimes, walking home alone created footsteps behind us and we could outrun any Olympic sprinter in those moments. Most of you are following this walk down memory lane and you have felt the same fears that I did as a child. Life allows us to move away from most of these childhood fears when we become adults. Now for my deeper thought…..as much as we dispel those childhood fears, we usually obtain different fears as we live longer and develop health issues. I think sometimes, the fear starts when we lose a loved one and it hurts so much. Even though we understand how, if we live our lives according to God’s plan of salvation, we have a human fear of dying. Even with our faith, we have only images of what the after life can be. The other day I had a thought go through my mind and I want to share it with you……God must sit on His Heavenly Throne and look around at all of the beauty, peace and tranquility and wonder why His Children fear death since death is the passageway to eternal life. I don’t have the answer of how a person overcomes this fear of death except to trust in God’s wisdom and promises of eternity. I have been at the bedside of several people who I felt saw the gates of Heaven opening up for them and that excitement was incomparable to any amusement park on this earth so it has to be brilliant and illuminating. Life can be short for some; life can be hard; but eternity is forever with no pain or unhappiness. Live life; love life and live life to the fullest and be ready to enjoy Heaven when it is time to go.
