TODAY THE WORD IS ANVIL. When I awake, I do not have a clue as to the topic of the blog. As I have never used an anvil and it goes back in history, even to ancient history; I think there has to be a lesson in the anvil for me to share. According to the definition in the dictionary: An anvil is a basic tool, a block with a hard surface on which another object is struck. The block is as massive as is practical, because the higher the inertia of the anvil, the more efficiently it causes the energy of the striking tool to be transferred to the work piece. In most cases the anvil is used as a forging tool. Before the advent of modern welding technology, it was a primary tool of metal workers. When I read the definition, the meaning of why this came to my mind was simple. It is the definition of life in a nutshell. Life is an anvil, strongly designed but meant to be simple with a hard surface on which we as humans are struck. Life has to be massive for us to be forged into the best tool of life we can be. Life as hard as it is serves a purpose because as the anvil has to have the highest inertia to cause the internal and external energy we disperse to be more efficiently so we can transfer this energy to our families, especially our children. Have you ever thought of this? We are tools of life and how well we do is how we are forged with the Master’s strength. Until life has its anvil effect on us, and the forging process begins, we are simply pieces of life yet to be shaped into the finished product. When we see people who have become successful and I am not necessarily talking about celebrities, we don’t see the struggles or in other words, the forging. Somehow, we are only aware of the finished product. Now for the deeper thought…..How many blows and how much pounding were spent on each person who has made it in life? Maybe the difference is the ability to both bend and take some life pounding or to just give up? I heard a great story and song this morning about the man who had lost everything except his wife. His five children and his wealth and home all sacrificed and the words came to him, “All is well within my Soul”. How many blows on the anvil does it take? I am not sure and I don’t think anyone has that answer. What I do feel is we have to have a willing soul and faith to see us as finished products of God.
