TODAY THE WORD is SPUTTERING. When I decided to add a new page to the blog, Journey With Food, I realized I might have the “sputtering” disease more than I have an overweight problem with some health issues thrown in the mix. How many of you know what the term sputtering means?
In the online dictionary, the word sputter means “make a series of soft explosive sounds, typically when being heated or as a symptom of a fault”. as an example:“the engine sputtered and stopped“
The act of sputtering can be the result of a symptom of a fault and this is why I am referring to this disease. We start on a project, a plan, an change in a habit, or we decide to go on a diet. We rev our engines up; we talk about it a lot; we purchase the items needed to make our journey and we put our body vehicles in gear. We start out the drive with a smooth sounding engine; we make some stops at stop signs and traffic lights, and then it happens. We start the sputtering or the distractions causing our engines to start the stop and start, the loud sounds or protests against the new plan. We try to ignore the sputtering and we still do some good maneuvers with some “bad offenses” thrown in. We say we will not make that mistake again, and we straighten up for a short while, excitement returns, we travel down the road with only a few sputters. Sometimes, we do it right and we reach our destination; while other times, we continue to sputter and finally we pull off the side of the road. We feel defeated and turn our engines off and the trip has been cancelled. To me, this depicts so visually how we take on so many things in our lives. Now for the deeper thought…..All we have to remember, and I need to take my own advice. The destination is what we are looking forward to, not the journey itself. We are going to get on rough roads, have flat tires, and probably sputter a little but if we have invested in a good vehicle (our bodies and souls) with a great Master technician; we can run a long time, see the wonderful scenes on our trip; laugh at the funny times when we do sputter and spit; and
check our road map of life (God’s word), we will arrive at our destination in spite of ourselves.

If anyone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.
