TODAY THE WORD is POKE? Yesterday, I decided to see how many of us understand the “Poke” action on Facebook and it was both amusing and enlightening. I put it out to all of the readers on the blog, “Do you know what it means when you poke or are poked by someone on Facebook?” or have you wondered, like me, what it really means? I even had a FB friend to respond, “I am glad someone FINALLY asked the question.” I heard it means “Hello…Hi…How are you…Thinking of you……to a Flirt and then the fun began because the next thing was woman were saying, “But a lot of woman must be flirting with me” and the conversation went rapidly back to the first descriptions. So for all of you who know me, have figured out I went to the source, FACEBOOK(sourced) as to what they intended POKE to mean:
1.A “poke” is basically someone trying to get your attention. It’s one of the meaningless features that are used just to annoy someone.
2.If you poke someone not in your network and they poke back. You can view their profile even if your not their friend!
3.A poke is when you allow someone to see your face book page for 3 days, so they can know who you are and hopefully add you as a friend.
Okay, so now we know. This brings me to a deeper thought…..It is so easy to misinterpret or for something to have multiple meanings. This causes confusion, potential disagreements, hurt feelings, break-ups, job changes, and/or destruction of relationships of all kinds and could be simply avoided by giving the other person the benefit of the doubt; maybe it is just a poke and not intentionally meant to do anything other than to get your attention or maybe even trying to be annoying. I felt, at a younger stage in my life, I had to “poke” back at everything which happened. I had to give my opinion on everything (and I know some of you think I still do) but I now choose my pokes. I keep myself in check and allow others to think for themselves, sometimes biting my tongue when I feel it is taking them in an undesirable direction because I have learned sometime life’s pokes are better if felt by them without me prodding. Are pokes a good thing? Each of us have to decide for ourselves. To poke or not to poke; that is the question! God gives me pokes all of the time and on occasion, they even hurt a little but once God has gotten my attention, I listen.
DAILY FEATURED BIBLE VERSE:
Hebrews 4:12 ESV
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
