TODAY THE WORDS ARE MONKEY WRENCH

TODAY THE WORDS are MONKEY WRENCH. A lot of times it is a thought popping in my head for either a quote or a blog message but this quote I wrote seems to be hanging around in my head so I thought maybe it should have been a blog message. Here is the quote: When you think you have life figured out; someone throws a monkey wrench in it. Thinking about taking a mechanic’s class. It seems to me when we get to a certain age, financial level, career, children grown, and choice of religion or even lack of; we become complacent and life becomes centered around activity of normalcy. We become creatures of habit; waking up around the same time, eating similar foods, either exercising or not exercising, shopping at the same stores, restaurants, going to certain places for recreation, church, friends’ homes, movies, etc. and life flows pretty steady and then…..someone throws a monkey wrench into your lives. I searched to find the origination of this term and according to Yahoo Answers here is where it supposedly originated: in the early days of the union the workers would throw things into the gears of machines to protest the working conditions. in Holland the shoes were made of wood and they were called sabot …thus the word sabotage…in saying throwing the money wrench in it would mean sabotaging the machinery. Sabotage, that is the word I was looking for which makes this phrase applicable to what happens in our lives and it is what we have to work to avoid. Yes, things are going to happen and that ole monkey wrench is going to be thrown in; it is how we react to these incidents, tragedies, changes, health issues, deaths, etc. which defines our lives. It is NOT what happens, as everyone has the monkey wrench somewhere thrown in; it is how we pull from our inner strength and our faith to overcome situations and how we “pull the monkey wrench out”.
God doesn’t issue charmed lives because we believe; God is there to help us pull through hard times; God is there to comfort us through the periods of grief or distress; and God offers us a way out of addictions, temptations, and losses. Today while we are going merrily along our normal lives, don’t forget to thank God if no monkey wrench or even wooden shoes have been thrown in your life and smile.

DAILY FEATURED BIBLE VERSE:

James 4:13-14 ESV

Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit”— yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes.
