TODAY THE WORDS are WHAT IN THE WORLD? So many memories are brought to the surface and with a word or phrase, a certain person comes to our mind when we hear this phrase. If we stop for a minute, we can remember several popular ones. I actually use Don Knotts character, Barney Fife’s “Nip it in the bud” and most of us remember Jaleel White as Steve Urkel in Family Matters saying “Did I do that?“. Oh, I could name a lot of them and I am sure you are thinking of several while reading this post.
The one I am focusing might not have been said by famous people but it is one which can bring a smile and a fond memory to me and others in my family. I think most of you have someone who has said or says this phrase, “What in the world?” I cannot help but smile from the memory of our Mother saying this a lot when something surprised her or she heard something on the news which she didn’t believe or didn’t want to believe. Out would come that phrase and it would tickle us every time. It wasn’t just the words she used, it was her expression. When our oldest grandson was visiting us, we got him to say this phrase and video taped his expressions.
Another one from my Mother and one I use too had an additional prop of the extended index finger pointed at me was “And too, another thing…” and for some reason another famous line by Paul Harvey, “Now for the rest of the story….” would come to my mind. I get reminded when I use these phrases I remind others of Momma but does that mean I remind people of Don Knotts, Jaleel White, or Paul Harvey?
Now for the deeper thought……..Words or phrases can sometime define us and create catchy memories or reminders of our personalities. Words can be powerful as well as phrases and can trickle down centuries. What is important is how strong words can affect a person’s life. An example is the difference between two children…one which is called stupid by parents and one who is told they are smart, or great; both children could be raised by same parents; in the same house; go to the same school; and of the same faith…….More than likely, the child who is called stupid repeatedly will not strive to excel and the child who is repeatedly told he or she is smart, talented, and great feels they need to accomplish great things since others believe in them. Live life; love life; and live life to the fullest by encouraging others rather than discouraging them. Words are powerful tools and that is “and too, another thing“.
DAILY FEATURED BIBLE VERSE:
Hebrews 10:24-25 ESV
And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
