TODAY THE WORD is RETAKE. How many times have you seen a photo and you think I wish I had asked them to do a retake? How many times have you said something and when you saw the other person’s reaction; you thought…RETAKE? Many, many times I have thought, “Oh if I could have a redo or retake.” Haven’t you? I thought so and this is the reason for this topic today.

 re·took  re·tak·en , re·tak·ing, re·takes
1. To take back or again.
2. To recapture.
3. To photograph, film, or record again.

With the definition from The Free Dictionary there are some strong meaning behind this word, retake, such as 1. To take back or again. Here it is; the hardest thing for us mortals to do when we realize we have said or done the wrong thing. It doesn’t matter what our intentions were; the scars are there. An example would be when a person who fights gaining weight and is trying again and it seems this person has the hardest time with his or her struggle. In an attempt to sympathize with this person, another person who may never know how hard it can be says, “Wow, you have the hardest time losing weight!” No bad intention was intended but to this person who struggles with this problem day in and day out usually reacts defensively. They may feel they seem like a failure to the person who said this statement. Once said, it seems to be non-retrievable much less re-taken.

People who struggle with personal problems; people who have financial problems; or people who have disabilities; and even diseases are more sensitive to other’s opinions; especially when the other person has no experience in these matters. If I were a wealthy person do you feel I could have a great impact on a poverty stricken down on their luck person by telling them to “Be positive and get up and change your life.” We need to choose our words wisely as “retakes” are almost impossible. I mentioned in the beginning about seeing a photo and wishing we could do a retake. However, even if we try it is hard to capture that moment exactly with the sun going behind a cloud; the true expression of surprise; or even getting everyone in the same positions.

Now for the deeper thought…..LIFE goes around one time and there are no retakes unless you believe in reincarnation. My thoughts are I am not going to count on reincarnation to get things in my life right; I am going to pray for forgiveness from God but also from others. Pride cannot be a hindrance as we should step forward and instead; do a retake by asking the person who was hurt to forgive you. Notice 2. above To recapture. If we are sincere and with love in our hearts; we have an opportunity to recapture the good feeling with this person and as importantly; with God. Live Life; Love Life; and Live Life to the fullest by trying our best to get it right the first time; but if we have to retake something in our life let’s make sure we do a great retake.

Colossians 3:17 ESV

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
