TODAY THE WORDS are RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT. For some reason this morning a traffic light kept coming into my mind. I don’t remember ever a traffic light appearing in my thoughts so I wondered if this was to be the topic for the blog. As my thoughts became clearer, especially after my cup of coffee; it seemed a feasible subject.
All of us have either driven or have been driven and one of the important parts of driving properly is to observe and obey all traffic signs and lights. Stop signs are placed for strategic traffic flow giving the right away to the heaviest and fastest moving traffic. And then, we have traffic lights specifically placed to move traffic in a smooth and efficient manner to avoid traffic jams and accidents.
I found the following information on Wikipedia and thought it helpful:
Traffic lights, also known as traffic signals, traffic lamps, signal lights, stop lights and robots, and also known technically as traffic control signals are signalling devices positioned at road intersections, pedestrian crossings and other locations to control competing flows of traffic. The first manually operated gas lit traffic light was installed in 1868 in London, albeit it was short-lived due to explosion. The first safe, automatic electric traffic lights were installed in the United States starting in the late 1890s.
Traffic lights alternate the right of way accorded to road users by displaying lights of a standard color (red, yellow, and green) following a universal color code. In the typical sequence of color phases:
- the green light allows traffic to proceed in the direction denoted, if it is safe to do so
- the yellow light provides warning that the signal will be changing from green to red (and from red to green in certain countries, such as England). Actions required by drivers vary, with jurisdictions requiring drivers to stop if it is safe to do so, and others allowing drivers to go through the intersection if safe to do so.
- a flashing yellow indication is a warning signal
- the red signal prohibits any traffic from proceeding
- a flashing red indication is treated as a stop sign
Traffic signals will go into a flashing mode if the controller detects a problem, such as a program that tries to display green lights to conflicting traffic. The signal may display flashing yellow to the main road and flashing red to the side road, or flashing red in all directions. Flashing operation can also be used during times of day when traffic is light, such as late at night.[
Now for my deeper thought…….It is easy to understand how we can take the details of a traffic light and transfer those instructions to our lives. When life is running smoothly with no interruptions; we are on Green or as we say “Go”. Throughout our lives, we sometimes have a sickness or loss and it causes us to slow down or experience “CAUTION” or as in the traffic light, we see Yellow and have to make some changes or alterations of how we eat, live, exercise, or make adjustments to our lifestyle. But it is the Red light or “Stop” light I want to stop and take a minute to share this thought with you. At some time, even after traveling for a long life, finding a lot of green lights and smooth sailing; finding and making adjustments when experiencing the caution lights of life; and cruising through the country side…..We are all going to come to the RED light of life when our time on this earth is through. It is a great feeling if we have reached the intended destination and can rest after the journey in peace and comfort. We can check our “map” or Holy Word to make sure we have made the right direction choices and we know where we are headed. Live Life; Love Life; and Life Life to the fullest by paying attention to the road we travel…We don’t want to get lost!
DAILY FEATURED BIBLE VERSE:
Isaiah 30:21 ESV
And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.
