TODAY THE WORD is LONELINESS.  So many people post on social media about being alone or experiencing loneliness. I thought I would reprint this post from when I first started the blog. It is focused on loneliness. Here is the post:

Let your mind go to a lonely hill, with only scrub bushes and no animals scurrying around. The wind is whipping and the only light is the stars in the sky. This is such a emotionally charged thought as while we read this, we are already feeling a lonely response. We feel such a sadness when we feel loneliness. Humans are made to socialize and if they are alone, they begin to feel depression slipping in. This can occur when a loved one dies and the other partner or child is left behind. Teens that experience bullying start to feel a separation feeling which produces loneliness and allows for depression to step in and affect the teen’s actions and sometimes devastating results unless they have mentors who stay close and reinforce their self esteem. Divorce causes loneliness in a lot of cases due to friends splitting their alliance and leaving one of the former couple alone.

Why am I talking about loneliness? Loneliness is a fallacy as we are never alone.…..we only feel loneliness if we do not recognize the ever presence of God. In reality, we  always feel alone until we move into a close relationship with Our Maker and throughout our lives, people will come and go. We will have friends that distance themselves, due to circumstances beyond their control or change in interest. We sometimes change jobs and therefore lose contact with co-workers and employers. We move and have to make new neighbor contacts as well as church family friends. Life is ever changing and we have to change with it. I want to take you back to that hill again with the acknowledgement of how God is with us everywhere. We are on the top of a quiet hill which is barren but without the camouflage of trees and bushes, we can see forever in the magnificent splendor of a sky filled with millions of beautiful stars, warming our souls with their splendor and we wrap a blanket around us to keep the wind away and we relish in God’s beauty and the serenity of this spot. We have no interruptions and can pray with tranquility and resolve our souls that God will see us through this time of change in our life and we will trust in His Grace as we can see all of His Power in all of His Creations.

Now for the deeper thought……Can you see how God can change your heart from feeling lonely to feeling His Presence in our lives? Loneliness is only a temporary state of mind; change that lonely feeling with a change in your heart to trust in God. “Be still and know I am God” comes to my mind.

Psalm 46:10New International Version (NIV)

10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,

    I will be exalted in the earth.”
